Cave Needle – Classic Altered Beast Monster Inspired Creature

Here is the stinging ant monster, inspired by the “Cave Needle” enemy from the classic game Altered Beast.

Of the ten monsters I am currently creating, this is one of my favorites. Childhood is a special time. Even in dark worlds some children endure, there are always small highlights. Mine was watching the arcade machine auto-play the demo of Altered Beast and watching over the shoulders of the lucky kids who got to play.

Video games were my world as a child, and that hasn’t really changed. Whereas I enjoyed playing them then, I now enjoy creating the creatures themselves. This monster has a special place in my heart — I’ve always been a big insect enthusiast and had a few “ant farm in a jar” experiments as a kid.
