I’ve updated the textures and quality of the Oculon centipede monster model… /product/centipede-monster-with-giant-eyeball-3d-model-rigged-and-animated/ Having invested in a few month’s subscription in Substance Painter, I was able to bring more detail and realism to the textures, whereas before I was using ZBrush only, which has limited capabilities in final texturing. As mentioned in previous posts, this model is mostly inspired on the creature found in the Legend of Zelda, Lanmola. Here in Hawaii, we have lots of centipedes. Something like a leech, something like a walrus, something like a pig. Definitely like a tardigrade, maybe a bit like a game enemy. When I design monsters, I enjoy incorporating the circular tooth arrangement similar to leeches. This guy can easily be pictured rising to the surface of the water like a hippo, making a sound that a giant leech would make, if he were, perhaps, half walrus. ...

The latest project: A giant waterbear. Waterbears are also known as moss piglets and tardigrades. They have a sort of mythological greatness in our day, being supposedly indestructible in harsh climates. I thought it would be nice to make a large scale one, sort of like a hippo or a pig. This will be available as a base 3d model, and likely also an animated game asset for Unity 3d. ...

Lately in my work I’ve been revisiting my childhood, where, at 7 years old, I had gone through a number of fairly soul crushing life-changes in divorce of parents, moving, etc. But as a medicine I had discovered VIDEO GAMES! As a child of the 80’s I had discovered Nintendo, and grew attached to games like Mario, Zelda, and others. These little Shell Bugs are inspired from those games. See the sketchfab previews below. Finally, my last monster of the 10 monster series! All of these monsters are going to be animated for Unity3d and available on my website, as well as Turbosquid and Sketchfab. This guy took a fair amount of time. Since it was the last in the series, and the wasp base model (I created years earlier) was decent quality, I decided to put in more effort. This termite monster looks mostly like a termite, but has extra mandibles. I thought termites have an alien look already, so why embellish? In 3d, insects are complicated. They have more shell and appendages than other creatures, so even though they should seem easy, they are actually more difficult than bipeds and quadrupeds.
